Helene Hechtkopf Named a 2020 Rising Star by the New York Law Journal
New York, NY—June 29, 2020—Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney, LLP partner Helene Hechtkopf has been named to the New York Law Journal’s 2020 Rising Stars list. The annual award recognizes the region’s most promising lawyers under the age of 40. Helene is one of only 27 attorneys honored this year.
Helene represents clients in a wide range of litigation, including commercial, employment, and appellate matters. She has significant experience representing railroads and has developed a niche practice doing so; for example, she has represented the Metropolitan Transit Authority in several matters, including those involving employment discrimination, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Federal Employers’ Liability Act, and the Federal Railroad Safety Act. In one recent case, she won dismissal of a lawsuit brought under the ADA against the MTA, NYC Transit, and the LIRR, in which plaintiffs sought an injunction directing defendants to design and construct barriers between the platform edges and trains. She has also successfully defended the MTA in several massive class action lawsuits, including a claim that the subway system’s elevators were not in compliance with disability law.
At HNRK, Helene is spearheading efforts to meet and exceed commitments the firm made in becoming a signatory to the New York City Bar Association’s Statement of Diversity Principles, aimed at fostering more inclusive work environments. Additionally, She has presented and written on various complex litigation topics, and sits on the executive committee of the New York Bar Association’s Commercial & Federal Litigation Section.
Helene will be featured in the New York Law Journal’s upcoming Professional Excellence issue.
