New York—Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney partners Fredric S. Newman, John J. Kenney, and Miriam Manber have been honored  in the 2025 edition of Best Lawyers in America®.

A founding partner of the firm, Fred is a legal generalist with five decades of experience in commercial litigation, business advice, corporate transactions, employment counseling, and alternative dispute resolution. Fred’s long and celebrated career as a commercial trial lawyer has included many groundbreaking wins, including his $126 million trial decision in a precedent-setting trademark licensing suit involving royalties to be paid for using the iconic Palm restaurant intellectual property. Shortly after the trial decision, New York Commercial Division Justice Andrea Masley, who tried the case, ordered defendants to pay $4.6 million in attorney’s fees and expenses to HNRK for its successful prosecution of the case. Widely recognized in the New York legal community, Fred received the New York Law Journal’s 2020 Lifetime Achievement award. In addition to being a Benchmark Litigation Star, he has also been named a Litigation Trailblazer by The National Law Journal and a leading lawyer by Chambers USA

For more than 40 years, John has focused his career on complex civil litigation, government investigations, business crimes, and corporate compliance. He has tried over 75 cases in 16 different state and various federal courts, the majority of which were jury trials, and has argued numerous state and federal appeals, including appeals in four different federal circuits. He has been widely recognized for his successes, receiving the United States Department of Justice John Marshall Award for Outstanding Legal Achievement and the New York Law Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award, among other honors.

Miriam represents a wide range of clients, spanning from individuals and small businesses to public agencies and multinational corporations. She has litigated in many forums, including in administrative proceedings, arbitrations, and in state and federal courts, securing numerous favorable outcomes, including on dispositive motions in jury and bench trials and on appeal. She has been named to Benchmark Litigation’s 40 & Under List, recognized as a Woman Worth Watching by Profiles in Diversity Journal, and named a Rising Star in Litigation by New York Super Lawyers.

Best Lawyers® compiles its honorees at the conclusion of a months-long peer-review process, during which researchers ask leading attorneys about the professional abilities of their colleagues.
