Partners Dorothea Regal and John Kenney Receive Prestigious Awards from the New York Law Journal
New York, NY—August 11, 2021—Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney, LLP partners Dorothea Regal and John Kenney have been named recipients of the New York Law Journal’s 2021 Professional Excellence awards. Dorothea was named a Distinguished Leader, which recognizes lawyers who had professional success in the past year while demonstrating clear leadership skills, and John received the Lifetime Achievement award, which honors professionals who have made an impact on the legal community and the practice of law over an entire career. As a founding partner of HNRK and head of its insurance recovery practice, Dorothea has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for policyholders. She is regularly sought out for complex and valuable insurance coverage disputes in international and U.S. arbitration, litigation, and counseling. She has prevailed for commercial and industrial policyholders in connection with insurance coverage for environmental, asbestos, products and directors and officers liability claims, property insurance, and business interruption coverage. Dorothea has been instrumental in leading the firm successfully through the COVID-19 crisis and transitioning the 26-year-old law firm to the next generation of successful and talented lawyers, while promoting the voice and power of all of its lawyers.
John focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, government investigations, business crimes, and corporate compliance. He has tried over 75 cases in 16 different state and various federal courts, the majority of which were jury trials, and has argued numerous state and federal appeals, including appeals in four different federal circuits. Formerly an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York for nine years, including three years as the Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney, John handled the investigation of the Franklin National Bank collapse (then the largest bank to fail in U.S. history), was involved with the Whitewater Investigation in Washington, D.C., and also represented a witness in the Anita Hill hearings.
Dorothea and John will be featured in the New York Law Journal’s upcoming Professional Excellence issue and honored at an event in October. HNRK founding partner Fred Newman received the Lifetime Achievement award in 2020.
