STEVEN M. SILVERBERG

About

Steven Silverberg joined Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney in 2017. He is a litigator who most recently served as an Assistant Chief in the Special State Law Enforcement Defense Unit in the Office of the Corporation Counsel for the City of New York. As a supervisory attorney in a unit of nearly 50 staff attorneys, he provided comprehensive oversight over the entirety of more than 450 actively litigated civil matters. Previously, Mr. Silverberg served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Special Federal Litigation Division in the Office of the Corporation Counsel, where he served as lead counsel for over 150 federal cases venued in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. In that capacity, he tried federal civil rights trials to verdict in both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and he served as co-counsel on a high-profile class action lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of police practices. Additional representative matters include an alleged 18-year wrongful conviction case, a purported five-year excessive detention civil rights, and catastrophic injury cases resulting from officer-involved firearm discharges.

Mr. Silverberg currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice.

Previously, he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Kiyo A. Matsumoto in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, and as a congressional intern for the Honorable Russ Carnahan, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives

from the 3rd District of Missouri.

Mr. Silverberg is admitted to the Bars of the State of New York and Massachusetts; as well as in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Partner Richard Reice was quoted in a January 24, 2016 Financial Times article entitled, “Wall Street’s Battle of the Bankers”, discussing the role restrictive covenants are playing in a major Wall Street employment lawsuit between an investment bank and its former employee, and in employment agreements as a whole.
